WHAT BUSINESSES DO YOU INVEST IN?
We invest in Saas, Marketplace, Fintech, AD, ED, Tech, and Artificial Intelligence.
Essentially, we invest in any good solid founders with deep tech knowledge, that have a product we think has the potential to be the next big thing.
If your product uses technology to transform the world and can change how we live and how we operate, those are the businesses we invest in.
We invest in the founder more than the business, and we look for founders with great potential.
WHAT BUSINESSES DON'T YOU INVEST IN?
We absolutely do not invest in retail, small business, or manufacturing.
If you only have an idea or you want to sell some products and services to your neighbors, that’s great you have an entrepreneurial spirit, but as investors, we don’t invest in businesses that are not scalable.
Basically, we invest in scalable businesses that have the potential to grow to $50-100 million USD per year.
If your business doesn’t have the potential to do that, then do not apply.
We get hundreds of applications per day, and you won’t get a reply. This is not to be rude, it’s just not to waste your time or ours.
I HAVE AN IDEA, WILL DAN LOK VENTURES INVEST IN MY IDEA?
No, we do not invest in ideas. We believe that a successful business is 1% ideas and 99% execution.
We’re looking for founders that can execute. Meaning you already have a minimum viable product, with some customers.
We’re not asking for a lot of customers, but you should already have your product-market fit figured out, and you should be looking for strategy, guidance, and capital to perfect your product and take it to the next level.
If you already have some organic growth, that’s even better. But we do not invest in ideas.
Because of our social media following, we get hundreds of applications per day, and you will not get a reply if you just have an idea.
If you have an idea but need help, you can check out our Youtube channel. We have thousands of videos, and our podcast has hundreds of episodes that can help you grow your business and make your idea successful. But as investors, we do not invest in ideas.
I'M RUNNING OUT OF CASH IN 30 DAYS, CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME MONEY?
The answer is no. If you’re running out of cash in 30 days, chances are you haven’t figured out your product-market fit yet.
You should put your head down and go back and tweak the product until the product works.
Bootstrap it, eat some ramen noodles, or something like that. More money will not solve your problem, you must work on the product first.
MY LAST BUSINESS FAILED, AND THIS IS A NEW BUSINESS I'M STARTING. CAN I STILL APPLY?
Absolutely, we won’t look at that and discredit you, we are much more interested in your new idea, and where your business is going.
Dan started and failed at 13 businesses, so he knows failure is not permanent.
If you learn from your mistakes, chances are you can take your mistakes and lessons and become a successful entrepreneur.

ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE, MY ENGLISH IS NOT THAT GOOD, CAN I STILL APPLY?
Absolutely, Dan’s first language isn’t English either. We invest in emerging markets nationally and internationally.
So if English isn’t your first language, don’t worry, you can still apply. We particularly like tech companies from Asia.
I and my team members have the ability to understand and read Chinese and Spanish, so you can still apply.
Although, you will need basic English. We don’t expect you to be fluent in English, but if you’re selected, we expect you to be able to present your business model through a slide presentation.
MY BUSINESS IS NOT IN NORTH AMERICA, IS THAT OKAY?
Absolutely, we like to invest in international companies whether you’re in Europe, Asia, India or another country altogether.
In fact, we prefer Tech, because it’s an emerging market that has great potential. We can apply many of the North American business models and strategies to other countries and they’ll work very well.
So absolutely, it’s one of the things we look for in investment opportunities.
HOW MUCH DO YOU TYPICALLY INVEST IN EACH BUSINESS?
We typically write checks as little as $10 000 and as much as $100 000+ per investment, as we find that’s what we’re looking for.
We like to invest some money in a bunch of companies and not put all our eggs in one basket.
MY TECH COMPANY IS ALREADY DOING $1M IN ARR, CAN I STILL APPLY?
If you’re already doing those kinds of numbers, it might be a bit too late for us to get involved.
But you never know, so apply and let’s have a conversation.
Worst case scenario we can refer to someone else that will invest in that next round of funding.
ONCE DAN LOK VENTURES HAS DECIDED TO INVEST IN MY COMPANY, HOW SOON WILL I GET MY MONEY?
Sometimes you’ll get your money in as little as 30 days.
This all depends on how soon you can get your data and your numbers to us, and how fast we can run due diligence on your business.
You can expect the whole process to take between 30-90 days.
ONCE DAN LOK VENTURES INVESTS IN MY COMPANY, WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS?
Something we expect from every single founder is for you to provide a monthly report to us.
It’s important we can see how the business is going with data and metrics, so we can get a good pulse on how the business is performing.
We also expect transparency. If something goes wrong, don’t hide it. Share that with us. We want to help and to help we must be involved.
Chances are whatever mistakes you’re making we can help you to reduce those mistakes. So, that is what our expectations would be.
BESIDES CAPITAL, WHAT OTHER SUPPORT DO I GET?
Financial capital is one thing, but if it’s the right fit, we’ll also be more than happy to utilize our social capital and social media followings to help you gain awareness.
We’ll make no promises, but for certain scenarios, if Dan is your partner we may be happy to utilize our brand, which will be worth a lot for your business.
We have a lot of experience that can help you when you’re building your team and scaling your company, especially in terms of social media marketing and team scaling.
